Teresa Ribeiro Hendewich

Teresa Ribeiro Hendewich, age 60, died peacefully at home on July 15, 2025 due to complications from ALS. Born in Zofingen, Switzerland, daughter of Joao Ribeiro Dos Santos and Lourdes Duarte, Teresa immigrated to the United States with her family as a young child and settled in Hartford, Connecticut. While attending Hartford High School, Teresa learned the clarinet and played in the orchestra in a production of Peter and the Wolf at Hartford Stage. Teresa attended both Hartford College for Women and Charter Oak College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English. While at Hartford College for Women, Teresa met her future husband and great love, Edmond Hendewich at a college Halloween Party. From an early age Teresa worked in the healthcare industry, first as a runner at Hartford Hospital, to later managing medical Offices. Her sharp mind and talent for data analysis allowed her to support decision makers at New Britain General Hospital, Hartford Healthcare, and eventually she worked for health insurance companies like Connecticare and Cigna. Whether she managed people or was a member of a team, her sense of fairness and generosity of spirit shone brightly as she cultivated friendships that continued beyond the office workplace. Teresa loved nature, and from her home in the High Hill neighborhood of Bloomfield, she and her husband would take long walks on the trails through Hartford Reservoir #6, Auer Farm, and other paths like the Blue Trail. She loved animals, and delighted in sneaking carrot peelings to the goats at the farm. Most of all she loved her cats, Leo and Lola, who became her constant companions when she worked remotely from home. Teresa was an avid cook, and enjoyed having her sisters and their families come together for the holidays for terrific meals and good times gathered around the fireplace. She was a cheerleader and confidant to her family, friends and colleagues alike, and a lover of life. She will be profoundly missed. In addition to her kitties, she is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Edmond, her sisters Rosa and Candy, niece Jennifer, and nephews Greg and Brian.
