Paul J. Moore

Paul J. Moore, 87, of West Hartford, CT and Newbury, NH, passed away on July 16 , 2010. Born June 5, 1923 in West Bend, Iowa, the son of Cleveland W. and Alta M. Cratty Moore, he grew up in Evanston, Ill. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Ruth Peterson Moore. He is survived by a sister, Catherine Moore, and was predeceased by a sister Patricia M. Fortado, His 6 years in the Navy included 2 years in Guadalcanal during World War II, with advancement to the rank of 2nd class Petty Officer. Knowledge of aircraft engine mechanics led him to a career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford and Middletown, where he retired as a General Foreman of Assembly and Test. His artistic skills and brief construction experience enabled him to design and build a vacation home in NH. His retirement passion was family history. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts, the Elmwood Community Church Board of Deacons, and with the Sunapee Hills, NH Home Owner's Association. He worked tirelessly to make sure his children had the opportunity to graduate from college. He had a "can do" attitude and could fix anything. He was a passionate supporter of all 5 grandchildren in their sports activities and academic pursuits. He will be sadly missed by his son, Robert C. Moore and wife Joan, grandsons Brendan and Christopher Moore; his daughter Marilyn M. Pikor and husband Roger, granddaughters Jennifer L., Michelle C. and Emily J. Pikor, as well as his many nieces and nephews. His family wishes to thank the caregivers at Brookdale Place in W. Hartford for their loving care in his final years. Thanks are also due to Masonicare Partners Hospice. Calling hours will be Monday July 19, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave, W. Hartford. Funeral services will be Tuesday July 20, 2010 departing at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home with services at the Elmwood Community Church, 26 Newington Rd, West Hartford at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elmwood Community Church.
