Noreen Mary Murtagh

Noreen Mary Murtagh was born May 17, 1940, at Rockville General Hospital. Her mother was Helen Regan of Rockville, and her father was Joseph Murtagh of Meriden. Noreen graduated from St. Bernard Elementary School and Mount St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford. She worked at the postal service for over 40 years, sorting mail at facilities on High Street, at Weston Street in the Meadows section of Hartford, and briefly in Elmwood, before her retirement. While Noreen had a love of horses and dogs, she had a special life-long love of Boston Terriers, and had them as beloved companions throughout most of her life, going back to when she was five years old. She loved to draw and was a gifted writer. She wrote many a letter to friends and loved ones. Noreen also traveled extensively, throughout the United States (including Hawaii), as well as to Israel, Italy, and Ireland, the land of her ancestors. She considered herself fortunate, in that she got to see everything that she ever desired to see. She was a loyal member of St. Peter Claver Church in West Hartford for over 40 years. Noreen used to frequent A.C. Petersons in West Hartford and loved the many friends she made there. She is survived by her cousins, Herb Regan and his wife Mary, of East Hartford. She wants to thank Gigi Frailey, Pastoral Associate at St. Peter Claver; and friends Mary Ertel of Vernon, Sharon Leiner of Bolton, and John Murray of Glastonbury for their significant help and support in her recent illnesses. In addition she thanks Owen Eagan for his friendship and extraordinary legal assistance. She was also most grateful to all of her care givers at Arden Courts in Farmington, McLean Hospice Care, Companions for Living in West Hartford, and Masonic Care Hospice, for their tender loving care. Molloy Funeral Home will facilitate services for Noreen. Calling hours will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday June 24th at St. Peter Claver Church and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. The committal will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Rockville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a mental health or cancer charity of your choice.
