Monica Mercier

Monica Brajczewski Mercier, 50, beloved wife and friend of Alfred R. Mercier of Bloomfield, died peacefully in her husbands arms at her home Monday, October 24, 2011. Born in Hartford, the daughter of Adam Brajczewski of Wethersfield and the late Theresa Kadel Brajczewski, she made her home in Bloomfield for the past 13 years. A believer that "education was the foundation to anyone's success" Monica made this achievement a priority early in her life. An Associates of Arts from The Hartford School for Women then a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Salve Regina in Newport Rhode Island, a Sixth Year degree from the University of Connecticut with a specialization in reading and finally a Masters in Education from Central Connecticut State University. This set the framework for her to give back with a teaching position within the Fallsburg School District in New York State. She was successful in her goal to return to Connecticut and teach in its school system, remaining in the Hartford Public School system for the rest of her career. The love of her life soon became her devoted husband who encouraged her to aim high in everything she attempted. She and Alfred were blessed with the birth of Rose Chantele in 2001, a child who provides beauty and love deeper than is imaginable. Monica's interest in gardening staked the way for holding the position of President of the West Hartford Garden Club, creating friendships and learning to find peace and solitude through gardening and the outdoors. Monica was passionate about knitting, creating beautiful sweaters for herself, her daughter, and her husband. A supporter of many causes, Monica was involved in Cure for Cancer walks and activities, animal shelters, and environmental concerns through recycling efforts at every level. She found much happiness spending many summers vacationing in Watch Hill Rhode Island, especially during her final years when the sound of the ocean waves were very soothing for her. But, most of all, Monica was a very affectionate human being who loved conversation with the company of others. It was soon after that Monica's illness was all-consuming, unfortunately making her life short but filled with love from her family, friends, and loved ones. Besides her husband and father, she is survived by her daughter Rose, her sister Mary Ann, and her brothers Michael and David. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Timothy, 1116 North Main St., West Hartford.
