Mary Thomson Russell

Mary Thomson Russell, 53, of West Hartford CT and South Londonderry VT passed away Wednesday, March 21st, with her husband and three children at her side, after a six year, gracefully fought battle, with Thymoma cancer. Mary was the beloved wife of Douglas G. Russell for 28 years and the mother of Charles A. Russell, John H. Russell and Laura T. Russell. Mary was devoted and loving above all to her family and friends. Her smile and the sparkle in her eyes are what set her apart. She was the most compassionate and caring wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. For those who knew Mary well, they know deeply how she touched lives in most meaningful ways. Born, September 9, 1958, to Emily B. and Alexander L Thomson, she attended Renbrook School and Kingswood-Oxford in West Hartford and graduated from the University of Vermont. After college, she worked for Doubleday Publishing in NYC and The Champion-Tuck Awards in Hanover NH. After her children were born, Mary devoted significant time to Renbrook School, Convenant Prep and Literacy Volunteers. She also taught nursery school. She was a passionate and avid athlete, with a particular love for skiing, hiking, playing tennis and golf. She and her family were blessed to have traveled the world extensively and had lived for three years in the Philippines. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves her brothers and sister-in-laws, Jim and Nancy Thomson, Sandy and Dottie Thomson, Bill and Kim Thomson and her sister Emily Williams and thirteen nieces and nephews and many friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical and cardiac doctors, nurses and staff at Hartford Hospital and wants to especially thank Dr Robert Lowe and Barbara, Dr Robert Siegel and Donna and Dr Jack Foster. They gave Mary the gift of a most meaningful life these past six years which included, dropping into Rendezvous Bowl in Jackson Hole, watching VT sunsets with her family and enjoying her weekly lunches with the "Thursdays". A celebration of Mary's life will be held at Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford CT at 11:00 am on Monday, March 26th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to either the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital, or to Covenant Preparatory School.
