Marie Anne Synnott

Marie Anne Skinner Synnott passed away on April 26, 2012 reaching the long and alert age of almost 99 years. She was born May 25, 1913 to parents Charles Skinner and Anne Mahoney Skinner of Hartford. Marie had three children, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She will be especially missed by her loving daughter Nancy and son-in-law Philip Cahill of Old Saybrook, formerly of Wethersfield and West Hartford. Marie was pre-deceased by her husband Bill and both her sons and daughters-in-law; Bill and Marie Synnott of Wethersfield and Barry and Carole Synnott of Simsbury all at very young ages. She leaves eight grandchildren: Marc Synnott, Kelly Synnott DiCioccio, husband Tom, children Christopher and Daniel of Wethersfield; Deirdre Synnott Hann, husband Aaron, children Nina and Adam of Ellington; Sabrina Synnott Harris, husband Rich, children Matthew and Amy of Groton; Neil Cahill, wife Johanna, children Kyleigh and Gavin of Glastonbury; Brendan Cahill, wife Kirsten, daughter Mackenzie and beloved dog Daisy of West Hartford; Katherine Cahill and her fiancé Charlie Shultz of Portsmouth, NH; Meaghan Cahill Becker, husband Todd and their beloved dog, Miller of Darien. Marie was predeceased by her sister Florence Lamson, of Windsor, and her brother Charles Skinner of West Hartford. She leaves her dear sister, Alice Molloy of East Hartford, her dear sister-in-law Rita Skinner of West Hartford, and many close and caring nieces, Marilyn Beddard of Granby, Donna Morrow of Chandler, Arizona, Diane Skaff of Columbia and Carol Zilinskas of East Hartford, as well as nephew Tommy Molloy and other nieces and nephews. Marie was one of the oldest living alumni of Bulkeley High School in Hartford, having graduated in 1932, when she was voted the cutest in her class. Many happy moments were spent at Hammonasett Beach campground each summer followed by many more summers at Grove Beach Point in Westbrook, where the Synnott family built cottages. After marriage she spent many years living in West Hartford, Hartford and Wethersfield. Marie worked for the Royal Typewriter and retired from Travelers Insurance after 25 years of service. She enjoyed friendship and travel with many there. She was an active member of the Corpus Christi Women's Club and Travelers Retirement Club, where she attended exercise programs. Watching her grandchildren playing soccer, hockey and baseball kept her busy too. In her mid-eighties, Marie moved to Jefferson House in Newington, where she knitted hats for newborn babies, scarves for soldiers, did acrylic painting, ceramics, cooking, met for current events discussions, attended garden room activities, reading and exercise programs as therapeutic biking and holds the record for Wii Bowling championship with score of 242. Just last year she even beat each of her grandchildren. She was very artistically talented using many of her skills to create beautiful gifts for her daughter, grand and great-grandchildren. Marie was a gifted gardener bringing any lost plant back to life. Her years at Jefferson were filled with care from beloved nurses and staff. The family would especially like to thank Rejeanne, Mohani, Robyn, Sandy, Mary, Linda, Polly, Deanne at Jefferson House and special thanks to Maria, Terry and Bill from VNA hospice. Marie led a remarkably courageous life enduring many hardships and difficulties with determination and grace. Corpus Christi Church, in Wethersfield, St. Mary's of Newington, along with their priests and staff greatly supported her during those years. The funeral will be Monday, April 30, 2012, beginning with visitation at 8:30 a.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford.
