Marianne D. Burnett

Marianne D. Burnett, of Newington, formerly of West Hartford, age 87, beloved wife of the late Donald A. Burnett passed away July 7, 2025 in Newington. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late William B Dunn and Katherine Reardon Dunn. A 1956 graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy (a beauty queen) and 1958 graduate of Hartford Secretarial School, she began her career at the Statler Hilton before working as a legal secretary in West Hartford. In 1962, she married the love of her life, Donald, and together they built a legacy of love, raising seven children and later becoming the proud grandmother of sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Known for her grace, warmth, and inner beauty, she was a lifelong member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, where her faith was woven into every chapter of her life—from baptisms to weddings to celebrations of life. Her greatest joy was her family, and in every photo, she can be found with children nestled around her, smiling in her element. Her love was boundless, her spirit steady, and her legacy lives on in the lives she touched so deeply. Mom found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially when shared with the people she loved. She treasured family gatherings and had a competitive streak when it came to playing setback—always quick with a smile and a clever play. She enjoyed watching horse racing, cheering on her picks with excitement. The beach was one of her favorite places, where she could relax with the sun on her face. Whether surrounded by family or simply sitting peacefully in the warmth of the sun, those were the moments she cherished most. She also found great comfort and companionship in her beloved dogs, Bernie and Charly, who were always by her side and brought her endless joy. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Jefferson House for their exceptional care, compassion, and kindness. From the nurses and aides to the therapists and support staff, each person treated Mom with dignity, warmth, and genuine affection. Their gentle presence and attentive care brought comfort not only to her, but to all of us during her final chapter. We are deeply grateful for the love and respect they showed every day. She is survived by her children; George and Ann Burnett, Mike and Dorothy Burnett, Ann Burnett, Ted and Rachel Burnett, Francis and Kristen Burnett, Mary Kay and Jim Kittredge, TJ Burnett and Carole Demarest (Fiancé). 16 grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren and brothers and sisters: Richard Dunn and Cathy (deceased) and Judy and Ed O’Brien. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, on Friday July 11, 2025, at 10:00 am, burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
