Margaret Mary Stakem

Margaret Mary McNamee Stakem, 92, of West Hartford, beloved wife for 65 years of the late Thomas C. Stakem, died peacefully in her sleep at home Sunday, December 9, 2012. Born August 26, 1920 in Mt Savage, MD, to the late Mary Clare Bender McNamee & Charles McNamee, she was a graduate of Ursuline Academy in Cumberland, MD and Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Class of 1943. Margaret met Tom on one fortunate train ride back to college; they married in 1944 and raised 5 children. Margaret was a faith filled member of St. Timothy Parish since moving to CT. 50 years ago. She had been a member of the St. Timothy Women’s club and shared her crafts skills by knitting healing shawls and sewing baptismal gowns. Margaret enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and Oriental rug making. She took great pride in providing her family a beautiful home in which to share their love. Her pastimes of interior decorating, landscape design and gardening flowers especially roses, orchids and hydrangeas, gave her great joy. Margaret lived for her family and so loved spending summers on Cape Cod with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by four children: Thomas C. Stakem, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Reading, MA, Ronald E. Stakem and his wife Helen of Oklahoma City, OK, Gregory M. Stakem of East Hartford, and Mary Lynn Kelly and her husband Timothy of West Hartford. Margaret was predeceased by her son, Dennis J. Stakem. Margaret is also survived by her grandchildren: Todd Stakem and his wife Sue, Kerry Stakem and Mark Stakem; Christopher Stakem and his wife, Courtney, Timothy Stakem and his wife Kate; Kristen Kelly and John Kelly; and by her great grandchildren Sawyer, Cedar, Charlotte and Thomas Gray Stakem. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Regina McNamee Skirball. Sincerest gratitude is extended to mom’s very special caregivers Halina, Marina and Beata for their loving care. Family would also like to thank Dr Rolf Knoll and to the clergy and staff of St. Timothy for years of wonderful care. Funeral services will be Tuesday (Dec. 18) with the Celebration of her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Timothy, 1116 N. Main St. West Hartford, CT 06117. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Friends and family may call from 4-7 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford on Monday (Dec. 17). Donations in her memory may be made to the Church of St. Timothy.
