Lillian Tanguay Read February 9, 1927 – April 19, 2023 Avon, Connecticut Lillian Tanguay Read passed away on April 19, 2023, at the age of 96 after a short illness. Lillian was born in New Britain, Connecticut on February 9, 1927, to Omar Joseph “OJ” Tanguay and Elizabeth Bartus Tanguay. Lillian was predeceased by her brother, George Tanguay and her sister, Shirley Gibeau. Lillian grew up in New Britain. While in middle school, she developed perfect script penmanship, a skill not achieved by most. Lillian graduated from New Britain High School in 1945. After graduating from Moody’s Secretarial School, Lillian worked for Raymond Engineering where she met her future loving and devoted husband Robert Wright Read. Lillian and Robert were married on April 17, 1948, and enjoyed nearly 60 years together until Robert’s death in 2007. Lillian initially worked part time for the telephone company and ultimately focused on raising their five children in Farmington. Later in life, she enjoyed working at Comstock, Ferre & Company in their crafts and gardening departments. Lillian had a love of the seashore and spent many years enjoying the Connecticut shoreline. She also enjoyed gardening, seafood, UCONN Basketball, creating greeting cards, and spending time with her grandchildren. Lillian lived most of her life in Connecticut but moved to Texas in 2005 to enjoy retirement with her husband. She lived in the retirement community until 2019 when she returned to Connecticut and lived in Farmington and Avon. Lillian’s five children are Susan Ann Moskal (Jerry John Moskal), Robert W Read, Jr (Debra E Read), Jim Read (Laura Read), Marjorie Read Rowlett (and the late James Dennis Rowlett), and David Wright Read (Carrieann Read). Lillian’s ten grandchildren called her “Gram”. They are Jessica Blaise Lipham (Russell Arthur Finger), Kelly Read Hayes (John Alden Hayes), Jennifer Read Litchford (Brandon T Litchford), Matt Read (Tatiana Read), Ashley Duncan (Bryce Duncan), Stephanie Amanda Rowlett, Melissa Anne Rowlett, DavidRobert Read (Meghan Read), Austinjoseph Read (Cara Read), and CarmelaAnn Read. Gram’s eleven great grandchildren are Max Wright Finger, Jade Elea-riel Finger, Daniel Read Hayes, Lily Alden Hayes, Harrison Wright Read, Anabella Lillian Read, Ikora Rey Litchford, Halli Read, BayLeigh Read, Lillian Lou Read, and Guinevere Jones. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Peter Claver Church located at 47 Pleasant Street, West Hartford, Connecticut on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 10 a.m. Lillian will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Avenue, West Hartford following the Mass.
