Gertrude Carver

CARVER, Gertrude, 92, of West Hartford, CT, loving wife of 63 years to Robert L. Carver who predeceased her by 10 years. She knew her days were numbered after a brief illness. She courageously planned her demise in every detail.She went joyfully and peacefully into the presence of her Lord and savior in the presence of family and close friends on May 29, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Baliff. She was born March 1 , 1924 in Jersey City, N.J. She was predeceased by her dear mother, Gertrude Karn Baliff, and her two beloved sisters, Barbara Lydia Byron and Jean Marie Sullivan. She graduated from Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City. She continued her education and to develop her skills in New Jersey and she worked for Chemical Bank in New York City and then at Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, NJ. She carried her clerical skills into the Verner-Cadby Ford dealership in Verona, NJ. Her last employment was the Grody Chevrolet dealership in West Hartford where she served as Leonard Grody’s executive assistant. She was a longtime member of St. James's Episcopalian Church in West Hartford and served on many committees for over 50 years. In this church, she discovered a new passion along with her husband Robert: its Outreach program for which St James is well known. She is survived by her son, Roger, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, three grandchildren, Robert Carver of Edmonton, Alberta, and, Burt Carver of Mission, British Columbia, and Krystina Carver of Hartford six great grandchildren: Jordan, Ariel, Emmanuelle, Theo, Andrew, and Hazel. As well as her daughter in law Katherine A. Carver of Hartford. She was predeceased by her older son, Thomas, of Hartford in 2012. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday June, 9, 2016 at St. James's Episcopal Church, 19 Walden Street, West Hartford. CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be given to the Outreach Program at St. James's Church. The joys of her life were canoeing on the reservoir with her husband and entertaining Their close friends and relatives and keeping in touch with them. The culmination of these joys was the family reunion and her 90th birthday party.
