David J. Bielawski

David J. Bielawski, beloved husband of Elena Bielawski, died January 5, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was born Nov. 10, 1956 in Boston, Massachusetts, to Blanche and the late Edmund J. Bielawski. He attended Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, MA. In 1978 he graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Civil Engineering and Cornell ROTC program, He loved this country and always wanted to have a military career. David was commissioned as a US Army officer and served in the Army Corps of Engineers for 17 years. He was always accepting with joy his multiple military assignments throughout the world. He was stationed in Kentucky, Missouri, Virginia, Germany, Belgium, where he was a part of Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and also was an adviser to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm in Kuwait for 2 years. He graduated from the US Army Ranger School, definitely one of the toughest military training courses ever devised. David was awarded numerous military awards during his military career. In 1995 the United States decided to downsize the size of the military, and David was offered retirement as a Major of US Army which allowed him to continue to do what he loved to do in the US Army- Civil Engineering. He pursued a career in construction management, working for MCC Construction Inc., which took him first to the Lajes Field (Azores, Portugal). In 1996 he met Elena in Greece while they did separate sightseeing tours in Athens. Career moved David to Anchorage, AK where he and Elena got married and then to Ft Worth, TX where he managed construction projects for the US government and the City of Dallas. Later they moved to New Jersey so that Elena could attend NYU. During this time he managed construction projects for Hill International Inc., for the New York Public Schools. Upon completion, Dave and Elena moved to Connecticut where David worked on school construction projects in Connecticut and in Massachusetts for Morganti Construction Company. During his construction management career he was known for his ability to bring all parties to resolution of difficult issues. He is remembered by all who knew him throughout his life as man of honor, dignity, a great patriot of this country with a tremendously huge kind heart ready to help anyone who needed help. He faced countless tough life challenges and one of them was a battle with cancer during last 2 years. His perseverance in this fight was awe-inspiring for all of us. The world was a better place because of David and there are no human words to describe how greatly he will be missed. In addition to his beloved Elena, and his mother, David is survived by a sister Connie Bielawski of Boylston, MA and a brother Fred Bielawski of Watertown, MA. David will also be missed by his mother in law Valentina Khromova. He was predeceased by his father and a brother Tom. Among David’s hobbies were the love for military history. He and Elena loved to visit military battles sites, and walk with tour guides throughout battlefields. David loved music of the 70s, especially Fleetwood Mac, was an avid reader and loved to attend Cornell reunions. Both David and Elena were parishioners of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in West Hartford, CT. Funeral services will be Monday (Jan. 11) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Church 47 Pleasant St. West Hartford, CT, followed by a lunch in parish hall. Burial will be Tuesday (Jan. 12) at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Cemetery, 990 LaGrange St. West Roxbury, MA. Friends and family may call Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, CT.
