Barbara Preston

Preston, Barbara B. Barbara Preston, 83, of Wethersfield, passed away Monday, January 31, 2005 at Hartford Hospital. She was born January 13, 1922 in Wethersfield, CT, beloved daughter and only child of the late Frank and Lillian Sharpe Preston. Barbara lived her entire life in Wethersfield in a home built by her father prior to her birth. Barbara and her family were former members of Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford and for many years she has been an active member of Saint John?s Episcopal Church in West Hartford where she was a lay reader, played the organ and was a member of the choir. Barbara was a 1947 graduate of Hartt School of Music of the University of Hartford. She taught piano to many children over the years and she was also an accomplished violinist. She was proud to be a Navy veteran of World War II and participated in memorials to woman in the Armed Forces. Barbara had a career in the health services where she worked at Travelers Insurance Company and Jefferson X-Ray Group prior to being employed at FIDELCO as part of the Animal Husbandry Staff where she worked with her beloved puppies. Barbara?s dedication, devotion, and passion for FIDELCO?s mission began long before her employment as she supported fundraising and raising dogs to support the program. She had a lifetime interest in woodcarving, amateur photography, hiking in the White Mountains, and she was an enthusiastic reader of non-fiction literature. Barbara is survived by two first cousins in Wisconsin, Betty LaBissonier and Betty Denman; three second cousins, Janice Lee of Norwich, CT, Gail Champlin of North Canton, CT, and Richard Connel of Avon, CT; and numerous other relatives. There will be no calling hours. There will be a funeral service at Saint John?s Episcopal Church, 679 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT on Friday February 4th at 10:00 AM. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a FIDELCO 103 Old Iron Ore Road, Bloomfield, CT 06002 or Saint John?s Episcopal Church. The Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, has care of arrangements.
