Alvina E. Roux

Alvina E. Roux, beloved sister, mother, and grandmother, entered God's embrace on October 15, 2024. Born on October 24, 1934, in Buffalo, NY to Edgar and Florence Pflug, her family relocated to Chicago, IL, in 1937, where she lived until her marriage to Edward Roux, moving south to Champaign, IL. Later, she and Edward moved to Dallas, TX and then to the Farmington Valley in Connecticut. Her final days were spent in Farmington, Connecticut with her family. A registered nurse by profession, Alvina dedicated herself to raising her four children. As a pastor’s daughter, her faith was deeply ingrained, with her father and brothers Ted and Mark serving as pastors in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. After the heartbreaking loss of her eldest son, Mark, in 1978, she channeled her faith into founding the first chapter of The Compassionate Friends in Dallas, TX, a self-help organization that offers friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved families experiencing the death of a child, grandchild, or sibling. Alvina was a devoted student of scripture, leading and teaching by example. Even amidst life's many challenges, including the loss of her son, husband, daughter, and grandson, she unwaveringly shared her faith in Christ. She was a nurturing mother and grandmother, and a loving wife of over 60 years, tenderly caring for her husband throughout his battle with Alzheimer's until his passing in January 2016. Outside her caregiving, Alvina found joy in farm work, gardening, and tending to her flowers. She was an avid swimmer, skilled seamstress, an enthusiastic card player, and a passionate sports fan, particularly of UCONN basketball, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Blackhawks. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Mark, niece Jill Pflug, brother Edgar, husband Edward, daughter Dianne (Hoelzer), brother Theodore Pflug, and her grandson Luke. Alvina is survived by her brother Mark Pflug of Saline, MI, her sons Stanley Roux and his wife Kathy of Table Rock Lake, MO, and Steve Roux and his wife Carri of Farmington, along with seven grandchildren: Justin, Nicholas, Katie, Daniel, Nathan, Kristen, and Edison. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 26th, at 11 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1655 Boulevard, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Luke Roux Foundation – www.lukeroux.com P.O. Box 16 Farmington, CT 06034 - formed after Alvina’s grandson was killed by a drunk driver. The foundation is dedicated to ending deaths caused by impaired drivers.
