Roberta (King) McCabe, 81, of Manchester, CT passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT. Roberta was born in Hartford at St. Francis Hospital, March 25, 1937. Eldest child of Annabelle (Nuss) King and Robert Francis King. As a young child Roberta and her parents resided in Wallingford, CT prior to settling in West Hartford. A proud graduate of St. Thomas the Apostle Elementary School and Mount Saint Joseph Academy, class of 1954. Following graduation Roberta was employed by Southern New England Telephone and Aetna Insurance Company. Roberta was the former wife of the late Joseph H. McCabe of West Hartford. Roberta and Joe lived in Hartford and New Britain in the early years of their marriage, moving to West Hartford in the early 1960s to raise their family. Roberta enjoyed seeing the world and resided in the San Francisco bay area for over 10 years, returning to Connecticut in the late 1980s in order to be closer to her children. Roberta had a great knowledge of and lifelong love for Big Band, Swing and Dixieland Jazz music and also very much enjoyed ballroom dancing in her younger years. An executive secretary with a very quick wit, confidence and solid secretarial skills she enjoyed a fruitful career. Survivors include her son Thomas McCabe of Hartford, daughter Patricia Henson and husband William Henson of Canton, CT and daughter Sheila McCabe of Satellite Beach, FL. Roberta was predeceased by her daughter Maureen McCabe Dickerson in 1998. Roberta had 3 loving grandchildren - Sean McCabe of Lake Stevens, WA, Laura Deming and husband Jeffrey Deming of Liberty, ME and Michael Henson of Canton, CT and a great-grandson, Declan McCabe in Lake Stevens, WA. Roberta is also survived by her sister Carole (King) Tobin and husband William Tobin of South Windsor. Roberta will be dearly missed by her loved ones. The family is very appreciative of the care given to Roberta during the last several weeks of her life, by the wonderful and kind staff, doctors and especially the nurses in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at St. Francis Hospital. Calling hours will be Monday, July 23, 5:00 to 7:00 pm, at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 24, 10:00 am, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Avenue, West Hartford. Memorial donations may be submitted to JDRF.org (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) or St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT. Online expressions of sympathy: www.molloyfuneralhome.com
