Patricia Gilbert
September 24, 2016
Patricia Gilbert, 82, of West Hartford, died Saturday (9/24/16) at her home. Pat was born February 24, 1934 in Stamford to Charles and Emma Gilbert. After graduation from the University of Connecticut, she taught at Lauralton Hall before returning to Western Connecticut State University to obtain her masters degree in computer science. Pat then served the State of Connecticut in the growing field of information technology until her retirement in 2000. From her parents, she learned to be unfailingly kind, thoughtful and supportive. Ever her father’s daughter, she supported higher education throughout her life. The pursuit of knowledge that put her at the forefront of computing in the 60’s and 70’s caused her to encourage and support academic achievement in others. Pat was a parishioner of the Church of St. Helena, and a member of the Catholic Graduates Club of Hartford, where she lived their mission to “Restore all things in Christ”. She was a devotee of Ronald Reagan, the Olympic Games, Pope John Paul, the beach at Watch Hill, classical music (especially opera), travel and downhill and cross country skiing. She will be missed by her sister, Ruth A. Dickinson of Crystal River, FL, her niece, Jayne M. Bolton of Trumbull, and nephews, Brian Paul Jenny of Winchester, VA and David F. Jenny of Owls Head, ME. A total of 10 “great” and “grand” nieces and nephews survive her and regret her passing. Funeral services will be Thursday, beginning with visitation at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Helena, 30 Echo Lane, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be private, in Darien. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to be used for scholarships to the Catholic Graduates Club of Greater Hartford, P.O. Box 1501 Hartford, CT 06144-1501 would be greatly appreciated.
