Joseph Carolus Plompen

April 13, 2017

It is with deep sorrow we share the passing of our beloved Joseph Carolus Plompen of Farmington who died peacefully on April 13, 2017, with his family by his side. He had many names, “Joe-Joe,” “Giuseppe,” son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and loving friend. We will miss Joe’s special brand of humor, wisdom, compassion and love that made him an inspiration to everyone he touched, with a devotion that knew no bounds. Joe was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1933, to the late Jacobus and Paulina (Bosmans) Plompen, and grew up as Europe was engulfed in the flames of World War II. In 1947, Joe came to America, volunteered for military service during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. Joe became a naturalized US citizen in 1955 and held dual citizenship in both the United States and Belgium. As a tool and die maker for Mal Tool & Engineering in Manchester and Windsor Automotive in Windsor, he made sure his family had all the blessings of a rich and full life. He became active in his community and was a 25-year member of the Mt. Carmel St. Cristina Society. Joe leaves behind his loving wife of 31 years Ann (Uricchio), his son Damon of Willington, stepdaughter Theresa and husband Anthony M. Maselli, four grandchildren Anthony D., Rachel, Angelina and Sophia of Burlington, sisters-in-law Jane Biral of Bloomfield and Donna Lemieux, niece Tammi Lynn and husband Christopher Montgomery of Jacksonville, Florida, nephew Alcide J. Lemieux III and wife Kathleen, grand-nephews Joey, Sam and Ben of West Hartford, nephew and godchild Michael Biral of Bloomfield, and dear friend Amy Lungu and family of Newington. Joe was pre-deceased by his brother, Pierre Plompen. Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. at the Church of St. Helena, 30 Echo Lane, W. Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, W. Hartford, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215. You did it your way, Joe-Joe, and it was a good way. May flights of angels speed you to your rest. Online expressions of sympathy may be made at www.molloyfuneralhome.com
