Virginia Ann Ryter Wennik – “Ginny”, 85, beloved wife, mother and grandmother died Thursday, June 2, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Donald H Wennik in January and she lived in Farmington for almost 40 years. Born on November 29, 1930 in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone, she was the daughter of Clifton and Margaret McBride Ryter. Ginny graduated from the University of Vermont and received her master’s degree in mathematics from CCSU. She was a West Hartford teacher for over 30 years and taught at Beach Park, Norfeldt, Whiting Lane and Sedgwick. Ginny had a lifelong interest in justice and had completed paralegal coursework while working. After retiring she volunteered with the Hartford Superior Court, the Hartford Area Mediation Program, and was very active in her church, the Second Church of Christ, Scientist in Hartford. She loved spending time with family and friends, playing the piano, and for over 20 years Ginny and Don were part of the Elmwood Bakery Breakfast Bunch. Ginny is survived by her two children; Peter Dow and his wife Kathy of Southington, Wendy Dow Miller and her husband Tom of Hadlyme; three grandchildren, Kaitlin Dow Humble and her husband Ryan of Bristol, Stacey Dow Zukowski and her husband Brent of Clover, SC, and Amanda Dow of Southington; two step-children Kenna Wennik Harrison and her husband Marty of Dade City, FL; Keith Wennik and his wife Carole of Midlothian, VA, four step-grandchildren, Taiylor, Wade, Chase, and Marina; her brother Don Ryter and his wife Joni of Winter Springs, FL, seven nieces and nephews, her former husband Louis Dow and his wife Jeane of Avon, and her dear friend George Bagdasarian of Newington. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret Ryter Saarinen, her nephew Donald Saarinen, and her precious dog Holly. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Middlewoods of Farmington, the wonderful hospice workers from McLean Hospice, and Elizabeth Berko of Visiting Angels who lovingly cared for “Gin-Gin” in the last few weeks of her life. Calling hours are Sunday, June 12th , 1-3 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Burial will be held on Monday, June 13th at 11 a.m. at the Middletown State Veterans Cemetery, on Bow Ln.
