Gerald F. Leblanc Sr., a retired educator and the heart of his large family, died Sunday at his home in West Hartford. He leaves his wife of 69 years, Mary (Wilson) Leblanc. Jerry was born on April 19, 1928, in Gardner, Mass., to Cyrille and Eva (LaPierre) Leblanc. He was a graduate of Gardner High School, the State Teachers College at Fitchburg and the University of Connecticut. In his long career as a teacher, principal and school superintendent, he worked in Hubbardston, Mass.; Stafford, Conn.; and Coxsackie, N.Y. He retired in 1988 after 17 years as superintendent of schools in Regional School District No. 10, covering Burlington and Harwinton, Conn. After his retirement, he and Mary served two years in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica. They lived for 40 years in the Whigville section of Burlington before moving to West Hartford in 2013. In addition to his wife, Jerry leaves his sister, Evangeline Moore; sister-in-law, Faith Leblanc; and seven children: Maryanne Leblanc; Clare Mangine and her husband, Ed; Jane Wells; Anne Roest and her partner, Glenn Kreig; Gerald Leblanc Jr. and his wife, Kelly; Jeanne Leblanc and her husband, Don Stacom; and Patrick Leblanc. He also leaves 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, as well as generations of friends in the Araya and Zúñiga families of Bijagua de Upala, Costa Rica. Funeral services will be private. Friends may call at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, on Saturday, July 10, from 9 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Food Bank, 2 Research Parkway, Wallingford, CT 06492.
