George H. Farrah

July 24, 2016

George H. Farrah, of Hartford joined his wife Aynesse of 58 years, in eternal life on July 24. He was born in Van Buren, Maine on November 4, 1934 and moved with his family to West Hartford in 1939. He attended St. Thomas Seminary and the University of Connecticut where he majored in political science and world history. He received a scholarship to The Hartford Insurance School where he completed his graduate studies. He settled in the West End of Hartford where he lived for the last 50 years. George began his career working for the Prudential Insurance company and later branched out independently into real estate investments that continued throughout his life. His career was balanced by a deep commitment to his family, and the passion he held for his hobbies of raising homing pigeons and collecting antique cars. At age nine George began the unique hobby of raising homing pigeons and continued to do so until his death. He was an antique car collector with a vast knowledge of American cars and the auto industry; interests he enjoyed sharing with his children and grandchildren during his lifetime. He was as an elegant dresser and had a collection of over 100 felt and straw hats, many dating back to the 1950s. George was a skilled story teller and rarely seen without a cigar in hand; he was a connoisseur of fine cigars and favored Connecticut-grown tobacco. A charming and erudite gentleman with old world values that were evident in his home and work, George was interested in talking with anyone he met and took a keen interest in their experiences. He had the uncanny ability to find a common acquaintance or personal connection with most he met. He especially enjoyed talking about world history and politics and had a vast knowledge and excellent memory of local history. A loving husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend who will forever be remembered and cherished. George is survived by his five children: Rhonda, Rommerro (wife Lisa), Sonia, Zachary (wife Maria) and Albert (wife Nicole). He leaves behind his grandchildren Amanda Brackett (husband James), Rebecca, George, Joseph, Malachi, Ashley, Jack, Tessa and Christopher and great grandson James Brackett. He also leaves behind brother Elias Farrah, sisters Ann Carroll, Carlise Farrah, Victoria McCormick and is predeceased by sister Jamille Farrah (2014). He is also predeceased by his nephew Garius “Gary” Farrah (2014). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Private funeral arrangements and a Mass of Christian Burial will be handled by Molloy Funeral Home, West Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund (kidneyfund.org) or Northwest Junior Pigeon Flyers Club P.O. Box 325 Chesterfield MA 01012
