November 13, 2016
Garrett J. Delehanty, Jr., of Simsbury, Connecticut, died Sunday, November 13, 2016, at the age of 64 after hospitalization for an illness. Garrett was born in Newton, Massachusetts, the son of Clara (Williams) and Garrett J. Delehanty, Sr. Apart from summers spent on Lake St. Catherine in Poultney, Vermont, Garrett spent much of his childhood in Pittsburgh and remained a devoted fan of the city’s sports teams. A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Wesleyan University, and Columbia Law School, Garrett just celebrated his fortieth anniversary practicing commercial real estate law. He began his career in private practice in California, served as counsel for a hotel chain headquartered in Georgia, and held several further positions, both in law firms and in-house, before joining Kroll, McNamara, Evans & Delehanty, where he had been a partner since 1999 and where he counseled many longstanding clients. Known for his irreverent sense of humor and the stories of his family that he told everyone, Garrett was an avid golfer, traveler, and reader. Garrett enjoyed his monthly poker group, Scotch tastings, fantasy baseball and golf, the study of history, and learning about his grandson’s most recent achievements. He was active in town politics, most recently as a Democrat, and served multiple terms on Simsbury’s Zoning Commission. Garrett was predeceased by his parents and by his sister, Susan. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sharon Lowman, his daughter, Megan Coslick, son-in-law, Brian, grandson, Neal, and by many cousins. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations in Garrett’s memory may be sent to Foodshare of Bloomfield, Connecticut or Doctors Without Borders.
