Cornelia Agnes (Kelly) Toohey, 78, beloved mother, sister, daughter, and friend passed away peacefully with family by her side on September 7, 2016. Connie (aka Corney), the youngest daughter of the late William and Agnes Kelly, was born October 21, 1937 in Hartford and grew up in a tight-knit Irish family in Hartford’s South End. Connie attended St. Augustine School, Mount St. Joseph’s Academy and Hartford Secretarial School. She lived and worked in Boston and Port Washington, New York before returning to Connecticut to raise her children in West Hartford. Over the course of her career, Connie worked for the Archdiocese of Hartford in the office of Archbishop John Whelan, for the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen, and post-retirement for The House of Bread. First and foremost Connie was a devoted Mom and “Nana” who always put her family first. She had a great sense of fun, loved celebrating special times with family and friends, was a tremendous judge of character and an ace marbles player. Connie was blessed with common sense and moxie and will fondly be remembered for her wonderful laugh, sage advice, devotion to family, friends and faith, and setting off the smoke detector to signal dinner was ready. Connie is survived by her daughter Kathryn Whittel and husband Joe of West Hartford, son Frank Toohey, of Scituate, MA, daughter-in-law Susan Toohey of Medfield, MA, daughter Martha Conneely and husband Mike of Wethersfield, her sister, Sr. Mary Kelly, CSJ of West Hartford, brother William Kelly and wife Mary-Lew of North Granby, her beloved grandchildren Maggie, Austin, Daniel, Grace, Eamon and Marin, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. In addition to her parents, Connie was predeceased by her brother John and sister-in-law Nancy Kelly of West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, September 12 at 10 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Britain. Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm Sunday, September 11 at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Connie’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the loving care provided by her caregivers at home, Atria Assisted Living, and Jefferson House. Memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
