Claudia Eblen Fischer, 94, died peacefully on May 10, 2016 at Caleb Hitchcock, Bloomfield. She was born to Roy E. Eblen Sr. and Lena (Johnson) Eblen on February 12, 1922 in Wichita, KS. Claudia had three brothers, Roy E. Eblen Jr., William and Frank Eblen all who predeceased her. The family would relocate to the Hartford area when her dad accepted a position at Phoenix Fire Insurance, and Claudia and her family would live in the Hartford, West Hartford area. She attended Oxford School and Smith College, graduating in 1943 with a BA degree. After school she would work for IBM in Providence, RI. Later she would return to West Hartford and marry the late George F. Gregory Sr. at Asylum Hill Congregational Church in 1946. They would raise their two children; the late George F. “Geof” Gregory Jr., and Emily Gregory Brady. Living in West Hartford she was very active in charitable and social activities, a member of the Monday Reading Club, Garden Club, the Hartford Golf Club, Bowling Leagues and Bridge Clubs. She was a member of Asylum Hill Congregational Church for over 50 years, where she taught Sunday school and was a deaconess. She would later meet the late William J.H. Fischer Jr. MD and they would move to Litchfield, she remained close to Susan (Spencer) Fischer and her family after Dr. Fischer passed away. She then returned to the Hartford area, moving into Duncaster in Bloomfield, where she would fill her time with music, bowl, and play bingo. Claudia loved spending time with her family and will be missed by her daughter Emily, a grandson, Gregory P. Brady and his wife Beth and their daughter Madelyn L. Brady, many nieces, nephews, cousins, sister and daughter in laws, and a former son in law Jay Brady. In addition to her brothers, husbands, and son, she was predeceased by a brother in law, Charles N. “Chuck” Gregory, Jr. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff at Caleb Hitchcock for the loving and devoted care they showed her, and a special thanks to Jeff Fournier the director of Rec. Services for promoting so many cognitive programs that enhanced Claudia’s life. A memorial service will be held, Sunday, July 10 at 11 a.m. at Caleb Hitchcock at Duncaster, 10 Loeffler Rd. Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to; The American Red. Cross, American Heart Association, Asylum Hill Congregational Church, or Caleb Hitchcock.
