Carol Ann Bachand
May 11, 1943 - August 23, 2020
On August 23rd, 2020, we lost our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend at the age of 77. Born on May 11th, 1943 she was the daughter of Ira and Mary Bachand. Carol grew up in Bristol, CT and after graduating from Bristol Eastern High School, she married and had three children. During her time in Bristol she was known for helping the community with all things creative. She opened Color Your World Studio and Gallery where she taught art lessons and represented local artists. Carol volunteered countless hours of her time with events such as The Mum Festival, where she directed the creative production of parade floats made from thousands of paper flowers. Another favorite annual project of hers was painting the windows of the children’s floor of Bristol Hospital with holiday scenes every winter. She also volunteered many hours to St. Gregory’s Church and the Bristol public schools. Her children always had the most creative Halloween costumes on the block. She touched countless lives through her art instruction and projects. Carol spent summers during her early family years in Mountain Lakes, New Hampshire and constantly made friends through her art, haircuts and community involvement. After raising her children, she went back to finish her college degree and earned a Bachelor of General Studies in Art Therapy from the University of Connecticut in 1990. Carol loved beaches and warm weather and eventually moved to Panama City Beach, Florida where she continued to share her artistic talents at the Visual Art Center in Panama City. She lived in Florida for 26 years before recently moving to West Hartford, Connecticut to be closer to family. Carol is survived by her sister Nancy (Bachand) Formikell and brother-in-law Don Formikell of Apache Junction, Arizona, sister-in-law Mona Bachand of Connecticut, daughter Leslie (Mascola) Bresette and son-in-law Thomas Bresette of Nantucket, Massachusetts, their 4 children, Lauren, Lucille, Joseph and Lana, daughter Lauren Mascola and son-in-law John Swift of West Hartford, Connecticut, their 3 children, Cooper, Bauer and Easton, and son Michael Mascola and daughter-in-law Motoko (Abe) Mascola of Boulder, Colorado. The family will have a small private memorial service after the pandemic. Please consider making a donation in Carol’s memory to either The Panama City Center for the Arts (formerly The Visual Arts Center) in Panama City, Florida or Immanuel House in Hartford, CT.
