Barbara Thompson Bullard, 95, a longtime resident of Simsbury passed away at UCONN John Dempsey Hospital on January 31 from complications of COVID 19. Born January 1, 1926 in Providence, RI, to James Edward Thompson and Mary Walsh Thompson. She moved to West Hartford, CT as a young girl, graduating from Hall High in 1943. She received her B.S. from the College of William and Mary in 1946. Upon graduating, she worked for Aetna insurance. Barbara lived in Simsbury, CT from 1952 until her move to The Residence at Brookside in Avon in November 2019. She was a devout Catholic and dedicated parishioner of Saint Mary’s Church. She worked for the State of Connecticut Labor Department for over 20 years retiring in 1989 as Unemployment Insurance Manager. After retirement she loved to travel with friends and family. She volunteered for many years for McLean Auxiliary at McLean Home. She put in countless hours and served on the board of The Second Chance Shop in Simsbury to benefit The Village for Families and Children of Hartford. As an accomplished bridge player she played in several bridge groups, liked to read, knit, root for her favorite sport teams and watch golf. Relentlessly positive and generous, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great - grandmother; maintaining an active and supportive role up until her death. Barbara leaves behind a daughter Marcia Keeney and husband Andy of Kitty Hawk, NC, son Jay Bullard and partner Lesley Apgar of Mahopac, NY. Grandchildren Pamela Keeney Lina and husband Jared, Jeffrey Keeney and wife Jenn, Miranda Bullard Melendez and husband Matt; Great-grandchildren Lucy and Lydia Lina and William and Elliott Keeney. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her. Due to the pandemic a Requiem Mass and burial will be held at a future date.
