Winifred R. Schmidt

Winifred Rose Fitzpatrick Schmidt, of West Hartford has gone to join her beloved Vince on Wednesday June 4, 2008. She was born in Astoria, N.Y. to Michael and Winifred Geoghegan Fitzpatrick of County Leitrim, Ireland. She was a graduate of St. Luke's in Whitestone N.Y., the Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., and the Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing, Jamaica, N.Y. She attended Columbia University and CCSU. She was a member of the Irish American Home Society in Glastonbury, the Irish American Unity Conference, The Women's Club of St. Thomas the Apostle and was active in its many ministries including as an Eucharistic Minister for the Parish. She was a member of the Senior Center and was a volunteer in its Blood Pressure Clinic for many years. She was also a member of the Hartford Bridge Club where she spent many pleasurable hours. She was Director of Nurses at the Former West Hartford Manor for 17 years before her retirement. She leaves her dearly loved children, their spouses and children; Vincent Jr., his wife Colette and their children, Joan, Vincent and Conor of Dublin, Ireland; Maryann, her husband Liam O'Connor and their children, John, Michael, Tomas, and Deirdre of Kildare, Ireland; Michael, his wife Patti and their children Conor and Molly of Charlotte, N.C.; David of Burlington, his partner Gwen and her daughter Sydney; Winifred, her husband James Lawler, and their daughter, Sarah of Wethersfield; Deirdre, her husband Norman Sinnock, and their children, Henry, Madeleine and Emma of Hartford. She additionally leaves her beloved baby brother James and his wife Mary of Levittown, P.A. and her dear baby sister Mary and her husband Martin McDonald of Scotia, N.Y. and all their children. She also leaves her husband Vince's brother and sisters who were so much a part of her life, Patricia Dwyer, Janet McDermott, Caryl Hedderman and David Schmidt and all their children. She was predeceased by a very special brother-in-law Moe Dwyer. Her life was blessed with many friendships, most especially those of Father Jim Lehr, Jean and John Carr and Rita and Bill Rideout. Funeral services will be Saturday with a procession at 9:30 am from the Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, with the celebration of her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle.
