Tom Kellogg

Thomas Orcutt Kellogg, 58, of Avon, Connecticut, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend died unexpectedly Friday evening in New Hampshire. He will be missed by his wife of 37 years, Kathleen Williams Kay, his children Elizabeth Kellogg Wolfe and her husband John, his son Peter and his wife Amanda Child and his grandchildren Madeline Wolfe and Patti Kellogg whom he adored. Tom was born and raised in Mahopac, New York. He graduated from Mahopac High School where he excelled academically and in sports. He was a state champion alpine skier. He attended St. Lawrence University, where he met his wife, Kay. He graduated from Cornell Law School in 1971. He then practiced law for eighteen years in New York and Connecticut. He later changed careers finding his focus in small business finance. Tom founded Business Lenders, Inc. and Commercial Loan Partners. Both businesses continue to provide loans to new and established businesses using the US Small Business Administration finance programs. Tom truly enjoyed helping small businesses grow and succeed. He was recognized for this work by both the national and regional SBA offices. He was co-chair of CT?s delegation to the White House Council on Small Business. For Tom, family and community came first. While his children were in school in Simsbury, he served on the Board of Education, was president of the Friends of Simsbury Crew and served on the Simsbury Charter Revision Commission. He was an active member of the Hartford Rotary Club for many years. Skiing, golf and bridge were among his lifetime enjoyments. He loved to laugh and was known for his story-telling. His fondest memories involved his children: vacationing every summer in the Adirondacks, sharing his love of skiing with his children, and trekking 110miles through New Mexico with his son. He particularly delighted in being a grandfather. He cared for his granddaughter, Madeline every week during his ?Mondays with Madeline.? He spent his 58th birthday celebrating his granddaughter Patti?s first birthday in Hawaii. In addition to his immediate family, he will be missed by his father DeLong Bud and step mother Virginia Kellogg of Naples FL, his brother Jeffrey and his sister-in-law Cheryl of Carmel, NY, his brother David and his sister-in-law Susan, of Newtown, CT, his brother-in-law Roger Williams and his wife Carolyn of Syracuse, NY, sister-in-law Barbara Williams of Fairfield, CT and his mother-in- law Margery Mills of Telford, PA as well as his nieces and nephews Jessica, Ryan, Julie, Alison and Grace Kellogg and David and Kara Williams. Tom and Kay are members of Asylum Hill Congregational Church. A memorial service celebrating Tom?s life will take place at Asylum Hill Congregational Church, Asylum Street, Hartford, CT on Wednesday at 1PM.
