Sally M. Fugere

Sally M. Fugere, 77, of West Hartford and Winchester CT., beloved wife for 55 years of Deacon Raymond J. Fugere, Jr. died Thursday, August 25, 2016 surrounded by her family, She was born in Longmeadow, Mass. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary McCormick of Longmeadow. She attended Longmeadow schools and graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA. in 1957 and Our Lady of the Elms College in 1961 with a degree in history. In 1987 she received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Central Connecticut State University. As an elementary school teacher she taught in Springfield, MA., Kitizgen, Germany and West Hartford, CT. Her most enjoyable assignment was the last fourteen years as a fourth grade teacher at Bugbee School in West Hartford. She retired in 2000. Sally was happiest when surrounded by children. As a mother, teacher and grandmother she was full of nurture and love. She was a longtime member of St. Helena’s Church in West Hartford where for many years she was active in the CCD Program and a member of the St. Helena’s Guild. She was also active in book clubs in West Hartford and at Highland Lake in Winchester. Sally leaves a son Raymond J. Fugere, III and Ann (Via) of Ellicott City, MD; a daughter Mary Kay Fugere and her son, David of West Hartford; and a second daughter, Barbara Nemirow and Jay along with their children Hope, Drew, Bailey, and Brooke of West Hartford. Her step grandchildren, Chris Via and Jamie along with their children Jackson and Preston of Trophy Club, TX and Kim (Via) Smith of Annapolis, MD. She also leaves a brother-in-law Robert Fugere and Jeanne of Toronto, Canada and many nieces and nephews and their families. Sally was predeceased by her sister Barbara and her husband Dr. Thomas Grace of West Hartford and by her brother William McCormick and his wife Jeanne of Potomac, MD. Her family will receive friends at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. in West Hartford on August 28 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the next day August 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Helena, 30 Echo Lane, West Hartford followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave., West Hartford.
