Richard T. Holt

Richard T. Holt, of Bloomfield, CT beloved husband of 66 years of the late Evelyn Fenn Holt, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday morning, December 12, 2010. Richard?s life was defined by his unwavering devotion to his beloved wife, best friend and lifelong partner Evelyn. During her long battle with Alzheimer?s disease, he was her living angel on earth, caring for her every need, and keeping her in comfort in their home for 12 years. Richard was a lifelong resident of West Hartford, where he graduated from Hall High School in 1934, playing on the Golf and Hockey teams and organizing many ?pick up? hockey games anywhere he could find a frozen patch of ice. Richard was a 1938 graduate of Dartmouth College, where he excelled on both the Hockey and Golf Teams. He was an active member and officer of the Alumni Association, supporting the College in recruiting, fund raising and Alumni events. Richard was a World War II veteran and graduate of the Naval Officers Candidate School at Columbia University, New York. He served as a Naval Navigator in the South Pacific Theatre from 1942 to 1945. Richard?s professional career spanned over 30 years in aero-space sales. He started as a sales engineer at Pratt & Whitney Tool & Die, finishing his career as Vice President of the Aero-Space Sales Division at Fenn Manufacturing. A fifty year member of the Hartford Gold Club, where he served on the board, was an accomplished golfer and enjoyed many rounds in the company of friends, his children and his beloved Evelyn. In addition to his wife Evelyn, he was predeceased by his son Richard T. Holt II and daughter Nancy Lee Johns. He is survived by his sons, Thomas and his wife Elizabeth, his children Thomas R. II and his wife Michelle, Alexander and Nicholas Holt; Douglas and his wife Susan and their children, Fenn, John and Laura. He is also survived by his son Richard?s daughter Evelyn; and his daughter Nancy?s children Blair and his wife Amy, and Melissa; and his five great-grandchildren Robby, Kayla, Tristan, Schyler and Sonora. The burial will be at 10:00am, Thursday December 16 at Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave. West Hartford, military honors will be accorded and all are invited to attend. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am, in the chapel of Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Avenue Hartford, 06105. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Asylum Hill Congregational Church. Molloy Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
