Ralph Worth Sr.

Ralph Worth 92, loving husband, father, grandfather, dedicated Hartford teacher and football coach, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2008. A resident of Glen Cove, NY, formerly of West Hartford, CT, he joins his wife Rose Cafarella Worth in eternal peace. He was a graduate of Malden High School in Massachusetts, class of 1934, St. John's Prep, and Boston College, class of 1939. At Boston College he was named to the All New England, All Eastern and Honorable Mention All-American football team. After serving in the Navy in World War II, Ralph began his coaching career at Rogers High School in Newport, RI, then as teacher-coach at Hartford Public High School, ending his coaching career at The University of Hartford. He was part of the Hartford School system for 36 years and retired in 1981 as a Coordinator of the Work-Study Program. He was inducted into the Newport, Malden, and Hartford Public "Hall of Fame" and was the recipient of the National Football Foundation "Contribution to Football Award". He was the first president of the Hartford Coaches Association, Chairman of the CUAC Football Committee and two-time president of the Northern Connecticut Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame. He found great pleasure in following the careers of his former players. He lived and coached his philosophy of "Be the best that you can be". He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Ralph and Brenda Worth of West Hartford, his daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Robert Faller of Glen Cove, NY, seven adored grandchildren, Richard Worth, Jennifer Worth Coughlin, Matthew Worth, Andrea Faller, Katie Worth, Timothy Faller, Dan Worth, and three special great grandchildren, Brandon, Christy, and Allyson Coughlin. His family also includes Mary Cafarella, Joseph and Mary Cafarella, Rudy and Gloria Cafarella and many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 1-5 pm on Sunday, April 27 at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. On Monday April 28 at 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Claver Church 47 Pleasant St. West Hartford will be followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Donations in his memory may be made to the Northern Connecticut Chapter - ¬National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
