Patricia Gorra Meehan

Patricia Gorra Meehan, 52, of West Hartford, beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister passed away peacefully Sunday, February 20, 2011 after a valiant battle with cancer. The daughter of Jennie and the late George Gorra, Patty grew up in Manchester, CT. She attended local schools and graduated from East Catholic High School. Patty graduated from Boston University with a degree in anthropology. She had a successful career in film production including work on Three Sovereigns for Sarah and the Emmy-Award winning Concealed Enemies, both for PBS. She later joined the family enterprises and managed businesses in the Hartford area including The Club Car and Gentle Touch Car Wash and most recently was the director of purchasing for Simoniz USA in Bolton, CT. Patty derived great joy from reading and spending time with her family especially in Boca Raton, Florida and Newport, RI. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Boston Red Sox and UConn men's and women's basketball in addition to her son, Dillon's Northwest Catholic football team. An avid swimmer, Patty was a top competitive swimmer in her age group at Cornerstone Pool in West Hartford where she was surrounded by many friends. In addition to her mother, Jennie Gorra, Patty is survived by her devoted husband, Shawn Meehan and her cherished son, Dillon and daughters Tara Meehan of Washington, DC and Paige Meehan of Newtown, CT. Also mourning her loss are her sister, Michele G. O'Neil and husband Timothy of Manchester and her brother William M. Gorra and wife Christine of West Hartford. Patty was a favorite aunt to several nieces and nephews including Erin Anselmo, Allison Williams, and Caitlin O'Neil, all of Manchester; Zachary, Nicholas, David and William Gorra, all of West Hartford; Kathryn Curran of Denver, CO and Kelly Curran of West Hartford; Kerry Meehan of Los Angeles, CA, Daniel Meehan and Conor Meehan of Tolland; and Griffin Meehan of Avon, CT. Patty will be dearly missed by her extended family – Robert and Veronica O'Brien of West Hartford; Joseph and Lisa Meehan Curran of West Hartford; Kevin Meehan of Middletown and Michael Meehan and Jennifer Heil of Avon. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant Street, West Hartford. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford. Memorial donations may be made to the Harry and Helen Gray Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital.
