Patrica Marion Zimmerman

Patricia Marion (Stenberg) Zimmerman, a longtime West Hartford, CT resident, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024. She was 81. Born on March 17, 1943, Pat grew up in Hartford, CT. She was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University with an undergraduate degree in Education, an MS in Reading, and an MS in Administrative Education. Over her four decades as a public school teacher, Pat never wavered from her life’s passion, ensuring all of her students and children received a diverse and well-rounded education. Her love for literacy and theater was evident in her teachings of Shakespeare with her 2nd-grade students at West Hartford Public Schools. She also made significant contributions as a Reading Teacher at Weaver High School and the Betances Early Reading Lab Elementary School in Hartford. Her commitment extended beyond the classroom, as she spent several years at the CT State Dept. of Education, overseeing the state’s Blue Ribbon Committee. Pat enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, such as shopping in her beloved West Hartford Center, savoring good meals, and spending quality time with her loved ones. She was a woman of determination, feistiness, and a love for engaging conversations and fought courageously up until her last moments, a testament to her strength. Her life was enriched by the presence of her four sons, who traveled from near and far to be with her throughout her years. In particular, she valued the moments when they all came home for the holidays. Her sister Debbie was a constant source of support, always there to feed her and fulfill her shopping needs up until her last days. Pat was the cherished daughter of Gunnar and Marion Stenberg. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Stenberg and family from Millville, NJ; Deborah Mortensen and family from Berlin, CT; and Shirley Foy and family from Indian Trail, North Carolina; as well as her dearly beloved sons Daryl Zimmerman of Atlanta, GA; Kurt Zimmerman of Glastonbury, CT; Douglas Zimmerman and daughter-in-law Trisha Gervasio of Oakland, CA. She was preceded in death by her son, Kreig Zimmerman, from Brooklyn, NY. She was very active in the lives of her grandchildren Rosie Montgomery-Zimmerman of Glastonbury, CT, and Joshua Zimmerman of Raleigh, North Carolina, whom she loved dearly. Pat was also instrumental in the lives of her many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT.
