Mary McDermott

Mary Donnelly McDermott, of West Hartford, died peacefully at dawn New Year's Day, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Nora Reilly Donnelly of Manchester, where she was born March 13, 1912. Mary and her late husband, James I. McDermott, were long-time residents of West Hartford. An active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, she was involved in the Mother's Circle, the Women's Club, the Altar Society, and a Bible study group. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of St. Francis Hospital, the West Hartford Senior Center, and the West Hartford Dames. Prior to her marriage in 1944, she was employed by the Connecticut State Department of Health; she later worked at the West Hartford branch of J. Watson Beach Realty. Mary was an exemplary working mom, who managed to do it all. She lovingly created a warm and welcoming home, encouraged and supported her husband's and children's activities, treasured many lifelong friendships, and strengthened our bond with dear relatives in Ireland. "Mary Mac" was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be remembered for her unfailing generosity and her wonderful sense of humor. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Noreen and Jack Moreschi of Manchester; son, Dennis McDermott of Glastonbury; her son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Amy McDermott of Unadilla, NY. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Shawn McDermott of Glastonbury; Michael and Josie McDermott of Unadilla, NY; Jamie Moreschi of California; Laura Moreschi Pare of Massachusetts; and great granddaughters, Amelia and Charlotte Pare of Massachusetts. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her brothers Thomas and Robert Cody Donnelly, her sister Helen Miller, and their spouses. Mary's family extends special thanks to the Atrium staff and to St. Mary Home west-one staff for their care and compassion. The funeral will be Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, with a mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
