Maria Francesca Genovese Lenares

Maria Francesca Genovese Lenares, of West Hartford; lovingly known as Mariuccia, passed peacefully on May 9, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She leaves her husband of 67 years; Salvatore P. Lenares, daughter Jo Ann Devine of Hartford, sons Paul Lenares and spouse Benae of Manchester and Peter Lenares, of Millsboro, DE. Grandchildren; Alison Devine Baldwin and spouse Paul, of Savanah, GA., Patrick Devine of New Britain, Vincent Lenares and Massimo Lenares, of Manchester. Maria was pre deceased by; her sister, Santina Amenta and spouse Eduardo, her brothers; Vincenzo Genovese and spouse Lucia and Pasqualino Genovese and spouse Rosetta, and godson Edward Amenta. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren; all who held a special place in her heart. Maria was born on May 10, 1934 in Canicattini Bagni, Sicily; daughter to Lucia Mozzicato and Carmelo Genovese. She came to the United States in 1950. Maria‘s first job was at Royal Typewriter in West Hartford. She was later employed, for 25 years, at The Wiremold Company in West Hartford before retiring as a lunch lady for the West Hartford Public schools. Maria is a former member of the Daughters of Canicattini Bagni. Maria was a devout Catholic; a parishioner and Eucharist Minister at the Church of St. Timothy in West Hartford. She loved gardening and spending summers in Old Lyme at the family’s CT shore house. Preparing Sunday supper was one of Maria’s favorite things to do; cooking and sharing recipes with family and friends is a legacy that will live on. Maria was deeply connected to her Sicilian heritage; traveling back to Sicily to visit her family often. People who knew Maria described her as loving, kind and gentle. She was selfless; always putting others first. She was often referred to as a “Saint”, she definitely had the patience of one. She had a smart wit and a great sense of humor. Maria spent her last days surrounded by loving family, nieces, neighbors, friends and wonderful caregivers. All feel so blessed to have known such a wonderful woman, who deserves eternal happiness and life. Her greatest joy was her family, who will forever keep memories of her in their hearts. Special thanks to hospice nurse, Trung and his team from the Farmington VNA and caregivers from Dynamic Touch; especially Latania, who was by Maria’s side till the very end. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, May 15th from 4-7PM at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. in West Hartford. Funeral mass will take place on Thursday, May 16th at 10:00AM at The Church of Timothy in West Hartford, 1116 N. Main St. West Hartford.
