Marcy Geary

Marcia Murphy Geary “Marcy” passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 5, 2019. Marcy was born on October 30, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as the only child of Jack and Sophia Murphy. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1961 and began a career as a teacher in the Pittsburgh School System and later taught in Washington D.C. and Maryland. While in D.C., she met and married the love or her life, her husband of nearly 53 years, William J. Geary “Bill”. Being an only child, Marcy fully embraced the chaos and excitement that comes with marrying into a large family. In 1969, Marcy and Bill moved to Connecticut where they built a beautiful life together, raising their five children. Summers were spent on the Connecticut Shore at White Sand Beach in Old Lyme with the extended Geary clan, and the remainder of the year was spent in West Hartford. Marcy’s greatest love in life was her family. Her happiest moments were spent in the company of her family, whether cheering from the sidelines, sitting in the audience at one of the many concerts she attended through the years, or rocking one of her grandchildren to sleep wrapped in a warm blanket. The only thing that eclipsed the love she had for her family, was the love her family had for her. She was a source of constant joy. She was present, curious, smart, and had a beautiful sense of humor that immediately lit up the room. Those that knew her will remember her as being welcoming and always talking about her children and grandchildren with pride and excitement. In addition to her parents, Marcy was predeceased by her brother and sister in laws Stephen and Ruth Geary, and John William Geary, and uncles and aunts William Murphy, Ward and Ruth Murphy, Helen Lamb, and cousin David Murphy. She leaves behind her cousins Carol Fedack and Susan Filipiak, brothers and sisters in law Fred and Teresa Geary, Thomas and Janice Geary, and Michael and Cindy Geary in addition to many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Bill, she also leaves behind her five children, their spouses, and her fourteen grandchildren who loved and adored her: William and Cari (Emily and Erin), Brian and Sarah (Kaili, Conor, and Liam), Meghan and Austin (Clare, Maggie, and Ryan), Michael and Colleen (Brendan, Jack, Patrick, Luke, and Paul), and Kevin and Melissa (Levi). Calling hours are Sunday, February 10 from 2-5 p.m. at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle, 872 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, and burial will take place immediately afterwards in Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave, West Hartford.
