Lucia Rose Levere

Lucia Rose DiBella Levere died on November 22, 2009 peacefully in the loving arms of her family, and with the love of her husband Gilbert and the thoughts and prayers of many family and friends who could not be with her in person, and knowing that she was loved and treasured by many, especially her beloved Gilbert. She was born in Hartford, CT on December 10, 1919, the daughter of Francesco Frank and Rose DiBella. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Gilbert, her daughters Rosemary A. Levere of Summerfield, Florida and Carole L. Montano and her husband Michael, of West Hartford, her sons Martin of Prescott, Arizona, Alan and his wife Linda, of West Hartford, Philip and his wife, Michelle, of Tucson, Arizona, and Lawrence and his wife Suzanne, of West Hartford. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; Danielle and David Chasse, Christopher and Justin Montano, Laura and Nicholas Levere, Savannah and Matthew Levere, and Julia and James Levere, as well as by her sister-in-law Carmela Levere. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Mary DiBella, Francesca Fannie Galatro, Theresa Tree Maher and Antoinette Dibs DiBella, and her brothers Joseph DiBella and John DiBella. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins, and many cherished friends. Born and raised in Hartford's south end, she graduated from St. Peter's School in 1934 and from the original Bulkeley High School on Maple Avenue in 1938. She enjoyed being an active member of the Alumni reunion committees of both schools. After twenty years of service as a cashier at Hartford Hospital, she retired in 1984. She returned as a part-time volunteer in the Hospital's Jefferson Street Thrift Shop for an additional fifteen-year association with the Hospital. She reveled in her grandchildren, who delighted in romping in her back-yard "Camp Gramma" while they munched on her much looked-for and appreciated home-made fried dough, pizza, bread and cookies. In addition to her ceaseless gift of time to her grandchildren, she bestowed on each of them a lovingly-made braided rug for their respective bedrooms. Her pastime was making braided rugs, and she also knitted mittens, children's and baby's blankets, which she donated to the St. Agnes Home for unwed mothers. A wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, she always extended a helping hand with a beautiful, friendly and welcoming smile and she will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be Friday November 27, 2009 beginning with a visitation from 8:30-10:30 am at the Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle 872 Farmington Ave. West Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery.
