Lois Neumann Durivage

Lois Neumann Durivage passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on April 8, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Carrie (Beck) and Max Neumann. A lifelong resident of West Hartford, CT, Lois attended Charter Oak Elementary School and the “old” Hall High School. She lived on Sedgwick Road for over fifty years before moving to Covenant Living in Cromwell, CT. Lois and her late husband, Hank, enjoyed many years of adventure and warm friendships during their retirement as snowbirds at Brook to Bay in Englewood, FL, before eventually settling at Covenant Living. Lois was a woman of deep and enduring faith, actively serving her church communities throughout her life. She taught Sunday school at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Hartford and spent decades organizing annual craft fairs and serving on various committees at First Church of Christ in West Hartford. Earlier in her career, Lois worked as a secretary at the University of Connecticut library. After raising her family, she returned to work as a secretary for the Pastoral Counseling Center of West Hartford and later for ARTeffects in Bloomfield, CT. Painting brought Lois immense joy, and her artwork earned several ribbons over the years. She and Hank frequently collaborated on creative projects; he crafted pieces in his woodshop, and she hand-painted them. Family and friends cherished the many handcrafted gifts they made with care. Early in their marriage, Lois and Hank loved playing cards and participated in a bridge club that fostered lifelong friendships and joint vacations—a love of cards they passed down to many in the family. When their families combined, they spent many summer camping trips at Hammonasset Beach State Park and later at Sebago Lake State Park in Maine. Lois loved the ocean and could be found playing in the waves well into her 80s. Her passion for travel also led to numerous RV trips across the country. Lois had a lifelong devotion to journaling and letter writing. Most notably, she maintained a regular written correspondence with her kindergarten best friend, Jane Pintavalle, well into their 90s. Lois was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, George "Hank" Durivage; her son, William Hibbard; her stepdaughter, Yvette Bruneau; her sons-in-law, Louis Tafuto, Norman Kramer, and Arthur Bruneau; her grandson, Jason Hannigan; and her friend and companion, William Jardine. She is survived by her daughters, Irene Garneau (Steve) and Wendy Hibbard (Carla Ramer); stepdaughters, Susan Bedrick (Barry), Yvonne Tafuto, Jeanne Durivage, Janet Kramer, and Joyce Cardines (Jeff); as well as eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family extends a special and heartfelt thank you to the staff at Pilgrim Manor and Covenant Living for their compassionate care, kindness, and grace. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, September 12th, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at First Church of Christ, 12 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT. A funeral service will immediately follow in the First Church Meeting House at 10:00 AM. Burial at Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave, West Hartford, CT, will conclude services.
