Katherine Ahearn Slattery

Katherine Ahearn Slattery, 93, of West Hartford and Hartford, died April 2 at the Hebrew Home and Hospital West Hartford. Born in Charlestown MA, she was the daughter of Frank Aloysius Ahearn and Catherine Mary Sullivan. She was a graduate of the Academy of the Assumption Wellesley, MA; received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount St. Vincent/Dalhousie University Nova Scotia; and a Masters of Arts degree from Trinity College Hartford. She was a teacher for the Archdiocese of Hartford at the Home of the Good Shepherd and St. Peter's Elementary School, and for more than 20 years served as the head of the Latin Department at Northwest Catholic High School West Hartford. After her retirement, she continued to tutor students in Latin for school systems across Connecticut. She was pre-deceased by her husband James F. Slattery, her brother Robert Ahearn, and her son James A. Slattery. She leaves her son Paul F. Slattery, his wife Jean B. Slattery, and their son Ryan, of Rochester NY; her son Robert J. Slattery of Cambridge MA, and South Royalton VT, his children Christopher, Raphael and Jessica, and great grandchildren Sophie, Calder, Aiden, William and Owen; her daughter Maura E. Slattery and her husband Gregory F. Gagnon and their children, Bartholomew and Therese of West Hartford; and her son John P. Slattery, his wife Leslie Butterfield, and their children Conor and Larkin of Seattle WA. Katherine is survived or was predeceased by loving friends, professional colleagues, and devoted students. She leaves her friend, Delinda LaJoie, many gentle caregivers, and her fellow residents and their families on the Life Guidance Unit at Atria Hamilton Heights West Hartford. Visitation will be held Saturday April 12, 2008 from 8-9:30 am at the Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, followed by a procession to St. Peter's Church Main St. Hartford for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am.
