Joy Halaby Thomson

Joy Halaby Thomson, of West Hartford, CT and Rockledge, FL, entered into eternal rest on August 25, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Douglas and Yvonne Thomson, of Brightwood Lane, in West Hartford. Joy, an avid art and antiques collector, was an honor student while at high school in West Hartford. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Roberts College in Rochester, N.Y. and served as Secretary of the Board of Directors of The Church of the Good Shepard, in New Haven. She continued her studies at Pinecrest Bible School and PAER Institute, where in 1977, she received a degree in art and fashion design. While at Pinehurst, she was a counselor, and taught art and English. In 1982, she moved to Florida to become a Missionary for the aged and the poor. In 2000, she purchased a scenic waterfront home, where she regularly held prayer meetings and cared for those in need. Ms Thomson was a classically trained mezzo soprano, had a beautiful voice, and loved music, fashion and art. The portraits and paintings that she was commissioned to do, or did for pleasure, were as perfect as a photograph. The wedding dresses, & gowns, that she was commissioned to make for special occasions always received the highest praise. However, she was best known for her closeness to God, for her gentleness, kindness and caring, for her love of family, and for carrying out Gods work. Joy, who was loved by all, will be dearly missed. She is survived by her uncle, Major John Kapp of Wayne, Pa; her aunt Vera and uncle John Ross, of Lighthouse Point FL; her cousins Barbara Done, Beverly Sue Huckelbridge, Debbi Vincent, Jean Halaby Moffitt, Betty Halaby Bahouth, Kenneth Halaby, Samuel Halaby, Theodore Halaby, Lawrence Halaby, A. Hayward Halaby, Richard Khuzami, Robert Khuzami, Victoria Khuzami, Richard Beder, June Beder, and Wilfred Beder; Maureen Wilkinson and children Michael , Brian, and Erin and Cousins Tim Wright, Tony Wright, Steve Hemmingway, Jim Thomson, many other Thomson and Halaby cousins and dear friends. Friends and family may gather on Tuesday, September 4 from 6 - 8 pm at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Her funeral service will be on Wednesday September 5 at 10:00am at Covanent Congregational Church, 1 Westminster Dr., West Hartford followed by her burial in Fairview Cemetery.
