Joseph John Visconti

Joseph John Visconti, 78, of West Harford, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away February 29, 2008 of lung cancer. Joseph was born in Hartford on June 22, 1929 to the late Battista Visconti of Bergamo, Italy and Anna Visconti Ganci of Sortino, Sicily. Joe joined the US Marine Corps in 1946 at 17 years of age. On October 31, 1953 he married Anne Valente. He attended technical school after his military service, becoming a general contractor for over 60 years in Connecticut. He worked with large corporations such as Aetna Health Insurance, The Hartford Financial Services Group, and Sheraton Hotels as well as hundreds of homeowners. He loved his work, taking great pride in challenging projects of all sizes while teaching his sons Joe and Mark the trades. Joe donated time building the kindergarten class at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford. He was an honest and dedicated craftsman. Joe loved travelling in America and abroad, bringing his family on trips to visit relatives in Bergamo, Lake Cuomo, and Sicily. Among his many hobbies were cooking, tending his garden, and his coin collection. Joe loved and lived for his wife Anne and all of their children and grandchildren. He was larger than life, loved by everyone he met and whose lives he touched. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was fearless and always looked beyond the horizon for new experiences, knowledge and opportunities. He is survived by his wife Anne and their four children, Sharon Visconti and her partner Richard McHugh of Wallingford, Joanne Messios and her husband Peter of West Hartford, Joseph B. Visconti of West Hartford, and Mark Visconti and his wife Theresa of Rockville Center, NY. He had eight grandchildren, Annie, Alexandra, Joseph, Gabriella, Michael, Mark, Sarah and Samuel, and one great granddaughter, Isabelle. Funeral services will be Wednesday March 5, 2008 at 9:30 am from the Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, with the celebration of his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
