Jane Higgins Graml

Jane Higgins Graml of Simsbury, and most recently of West Hartford, the beloved wife of the late Ganiford C. Graml, passed away at home with her family on Saturday, July 22, 2023 after battling ovarian cancer with grace and courage. Born in Hartford, the youngest child of the late Patrick J. and Mary Catherine (Kelly) Higgins, she grew up in Hartford and West Hartford with her much-loved siblings. Jane graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows School and Hall High School, and briefly attended CCSU--for the parties, as she cheerfully admitted. Jane and her husband of 49 years, Ganiford (Buzz), met while both worked at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co., and after marrying in 1960, they soon moved to Simsbury, where she lived until moving back to West Hartford in 2022. In addition to caring for her family, Jane worked for many years at Antonio's in Simsbury--where she made treasured friends--and she also enjoyed catering a wide variety of events. Jane will be well-remembered for her vitality and sense of humor, her love of travel near and far, her sweet tooth, and the devotion she showed her family and friends. Jane is survived by her daughter Kelly of West Hartford, son Paul and daughter-in-law Maura of Old Lyme, and daughter Sarah Peltier and son-in-law Jeffrey of New Hartford, as well as her two grandchildren, Madison Peltier of Framingham, MA and her fiancé Reid Beauchemin, and Thomas Peltier and his wife Brittany of Wilmot, NH, and her great-grandchild, Eleanor Jane. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Norman Hausmann, many cherished Higgins and Hausmann nieces and nephews, and many life-long friends. Jane was predeceased by her husband, Ganiford, as well as siblings Katherine (Patsy) Higgins, Mary Hausmann, John (Jack) Higgins, and Donald Higgins. Her family will receive friends on Friday, August 4 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church Parish Center, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, followed by a 10 a.m. Memorial Mass upstairs in the Church. Burial will be at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
