Jane Farrell Flannery

Jane (Farrell) Flannery, 89, a resident of The McAuley of West Hartford for the past 6 years, wife for 58 years of John L. Flannery, died peacefully at home after a long illness on February 3, 2014. She was born on May 31, 1924 in Boston, MA, daughter of Rose and James Farrell. Jane enjoyed a happy childhood in Dedham, MA , graduated from secretarial school in Boston and was employed in the automotive and wool industries until her marriage in 1955. After her marriage to John, her devoted husband and partner in all things, she continued to live in her hometown, Dedham. Jane and John moved to Alexandria, VA where she enjoyed every facet of Washington, D.C. culture, and finally to West Hartford in 1971. Jane’s faith was an important part of her life and legacy to her children. She was an active parishioner her entire life, most recently at Saint Peter Claver Church. In Jane’s role as wife and mother, her true passion and gifts could be easily found. In addition to her husband, Jane is survived by three children who brought great joy to her life; Mary Flannery of South Bend, IN; Margaret (David) Catalano of Tewksbury, NJ and John (Tracy) Flannery of Wilton, CT. She is also survived by seven grandchildren of whom she was very proud, Kevin and Nora Brackbill; Emily and Sara Catalano and Morgan, Matthew and Timothy Flannery. Jane is also survived by a brother, James Farrell and his wife, Helen as well as eleven nieces and nephews. Jane was predeceased by her elder sister Ann Kilduff. The family thanks Margaret Lagan and the compassionate staff at Masonicare for their dedicated support. They are especially thankful for Lucretia Grant and Seva Williams of Companions for Care, who cared for Jane in her last days in a loving, faithful and unconditional way which will never be forgotten and for Mattye from The McAuley who cheerfully provided support over the years. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4-7 P.M. at Saint Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant Street, West Hartford. The funeral will be held Friday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in the Church of Saint Peter Claver. Burial service will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
