Jaime E. Gamarra

Jaime E. Gamarra, “Mono” 53, of New Britain, died Monday, August 10, 2015, peacefully at The Reservoir in West Hartford. Born in Peru, the son of the late Pedro and Olga (Navarro) Gamarra he immigrated to the United States, taught himself English and embarked on building a business. A carpenter by trade, a trade he learned from working with his father, he masterfully took the trade to another level. He always challenged himself when he had the opportunity. In addition to carpentry, he learned, plumbing, electrical and tiling. He transformed homes with his amazing craftsmanship. There was very little he couldn’t do and he was always willing to try. His clients became friends and he developed lasting relationships. Jamie loved Peru and embraced the culture. He loved Peruvian food, music and never missed an opportunity to dance their native dances. He spent many weekends playing soccer with his friends and when not playing himself, watching the games on TV. He was devoted to his family both in the United States and Peru. He helped his four brothers when they moved to the United States and helped his siblings that stayed in Peru and care for their parents. He is survived by his daughter Erin Brooks; six brothers, Pedro, Carlos, Oscar, Alfredo, Victor, Rafeal; two sisters, Doris, Rosa; many nieces, nephews and countless friends. Words cannot express the gratitude we have to the entire staff at John Dempsey Hospital, especially the 6th floor staff who kept a vigil eye and advocated for him when necessary. He was a special person who people couldn’t help but care for. His final days where spent at The Reservoir in West Hartford. It was a place that brought him great comfort. He was blessed to have equally as wonderful care and compassionate staff. They brought him great peace. Although his time has been to brief, he has had an amazing journey, he helped many, and learned more than he thought possible. Jamie fought a good fight and his kind gentle soul will be missed by all. Calling hours are Friday (Aug 14th) from 4-8 pm at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday (Aug 15th) at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Following the funeral, Jamie’s wishes are to be cremated and have his ashes buried with his parents in Peru. Donations to help with his expenses may be sent to the funeral home.
