Hildegard Sorenson Sterling

Hildegarde Carling Sorenson Sterling, 90, died on Friday August 5, 2011 in Bloomfield. Hildegarde was the daughter of Arthur and Hilda Carling of West Hartford. She graduated from Hall High School and attended Boston University. She was predeceased by her husband, Wesley T. Sorenson, who died in 1986, her second husband Jack C. Sterling Jr., who died in 2011, and her brother Arthur Richard Carling. Hildegarde was a member of the Hartford Golf Club, The Town and County Club, The Maestros' Society of The Hartford Symphony, the Horace Bushnell Society, the Mark Twain House, Hill-Stead Museum, and a former Elector of the Wadsworth Athenaeum. She was a member of Asylum Hill Congregational Church. She would continue to be supportive of the McLean Home in Simsbury, where she and her late husband Wesley started the Sorenson Technology Center. Philanthropy was a corner stone of her life and she and her daughter Wendy Pearson would continue that spirit of giving with their work with the Sorenson-Pearson Family Foundation. She is survived by her three children; Richard W. Sorenson and his wife Sandra of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Robert C. Sorenson of Key Largo, FL, and Wendy S. Pearson and her husband Peter of Canton. She is additionally survived by her grandchildren; Jennifer Sorenson Buddenhagen and her husband Erich of Manchester, MA, Richard Sorenson Jr. and his wife Camilla of West Hartford, Christopher Sorenson and his wife Christine of Palm Beach, FL, Robert Sorenson Jr. and his wife Allison of West Hartford, Wesley Sorenson II and his wife Sharon of West Hartford, Michael, Carling, and Theodore Pearson of Canton, and fifteen great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her step-children; Susan B. Sterling and her husband Paul Machlin of Waterville, ME, John C. Sterling III and his wife Susan Evans Sterling of New York City, and Bryan Kiefer husband of the late Judith Sterling and his wife Nancy of New Milford. Seven step-grandchildren additionally survive her. Funeral services will be Thursday August 11 with visitation from 2pm followed by a service at 3 pm at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Duncaster Residents Association, 40 Loeffler Rd.
