TAMONEY, MD. Harry Dr. Harry Tamoney, a retired surgical oncologist, died Tuesday August 31, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. Born on November 16, 1921 in Hartford, the son of the late Harry and Mary Frances Gallagher Tamoney, he had lived in West Hartford before moving to Boca Raton, FL thirty five years ago. He returned to this area five years ago living in Avon. Dr. Tamoney was a graduate of Hall High School in West Hartford, 1939, Trinity College in Hartford, 1942, and Cornell University School of Medicine. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a flight surgeon attaining the rank of Captain. Dr. Tamoney interned at St. Francis and served his residencies at St. Francis and Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. He was awarded a teaching fellowship for surgery at St. Francis and Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospitals. He had private practices in both Connecticut and Florida. He was a former member of the New York Athletic Club, the Ewing Society, the Emerald Society, and the Harp and Hound Club. Dr.Tamoney had served as a President of the Hartford County Medical Assn., a former chairman of the Cancer Society in Hartford, former Chairman of the Board of St. Andrews High School in Boca Raton, a past president of the Parent Assn. of Georgetown University, and volunteered as an umpire for Little League in the Hartford, CT area. He is survived by his wife Patricia McGovern Tamoney, his eight children and their spouses; Brian and Donna Tamoney of Boca Raton, FL, Marabeth T. Hamilton of Avon, CT, Maura and Jim Grubb of Boynton Beach, FL, Shauna T. Amann of Boca Raton, FL, Karen D. Tamoney of Del Ray Beach, FL, Mark and Kim Tamoney of Altamont Springs, FL, Hugh M. and Susie Tamoney of Jupiter, FL, and Meghan and Michael Zazzaro of Avon, 22 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His brother and sister-in-law Thomas H. and Mary Tamoney of West Hartford also survive him. The funeral will be Saturday September 4th at 9:30 a.m. with a procession from the Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford to the celebration of a mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann?s Church, Avon. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society P.O.
