Gregory Edward Claffey

CLAFFEY, Gregory Edward Gregory Edward Claffey, 59, of East Granby, beloved husband of Donna Stuart Claffey, passed away at home on Monday November 12, 2007 surrounded by his loving wife and children. He courageously fought a two year battle with malignant melanoma and remained incredibly optimistic throughout his entire illness. He was born on November 16, 1947 in Hartford, CT, son of Robert and the late Rita Maloney Claffey of Bloomfield, CT. Gregory was a very loving, soft-spoken gentle man, known to be quietly optimistic and always the voice of reason. His selfless, calming influence brought peace to everyone who knew him. His engineering background created an attention to detail that was second to none. Gregory, a highly respected Master Electrician was extremely proud of his trade. Receiving his Master Electrical Contractor?s License brought him a feeling of great accomplishment. He was a dedicated employee for 27 years at Kaman Aerospace Corporation in Bloomfield, CT as a Facilities Engineer. Throughout his years at Kaman, Gregory developed very deep, lasting friendships with his colleagues. In past years Gregory was a member of the Lions Club in Windsor, CT. He was a member of the Golf League at Kaman Aerospace and a member of the Kaman Club of Bloomfield, Inc. Gregory served on the Board of Chelsea Common Condo Association in East Granby, CT. Gregory also dedicated his time as a Little League Baseball and Youth Soccer Coach in Bloomfield for many years. In addition to his loving wife of 40 years, and his father Robert J. Claffey of Bloomfield, Gregory leaves a daughter Jeanne-Marie Silverwatch and her husband Allen of Newington, a daughter Tammy Wrenn and her husband Geoff of South Windsor, his daughter Melissa Kris Claffey of Windsor, and a son Gregory S. Claffey and his wife Karen of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Katelyn, Jonathan, Hannah, Aubrey, Sydney, and Issabella; two sisters Noreen Claffey and Karen Seaman and her husband David all of East Granby; four brothers, Robert J. Claffey, Jr. of Norwich, Kevin Claffey and his wife Sharon of East Granby, Neil Claffey and his wife Ann Marie of Windsor Locks, and Keith Claffey and his partner Jason Hayes in New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Rita Maloney Claffey, his sister-in-law Jean S. Bunny Gilmore, his brother-in-law Christopher J. Stuart, and his grandson Christopher D. Wrenn. Gregory?s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Suffield Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice for their caring and support during this very difficult time. Calling hours will be at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave. Bloomfield on Thursday November 15, 2007 from 4-7 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, November16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Mountain Ave. Bloomfield immediately following the service.
