Gregory Lee Clark

Gregory Lee Clark, age 77, died peacefully on April 4,2024 after a five year journey with ALS. He travelled that journey with courage, persistence, and humor accompanied by his wife, Joyce. Greg was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and grew up in Lisbon, IA. He attended Lisbon public schools through high school then graduated from Drake University with a BA in music education. Greg taught music in the Carlisle, IA public schools until he was drafted into the US Army in 1970. Greg served in Savannah, GA and Vietnam. After an honorable discharge from the army, Greg moved to CT where he apprenticed and became a skilled carpenter/craftsman. Greg continued his interest in music, singing with choirs and choral groups in CT. Greg was the soloist/section leader at the Universalist Church of West Hartford for many years. Most recently he enjoyed singing with the choral group Gaudeamus. Gregory enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. With his wife Joyce, he climbed twenty 4000 footers and stayed in most of the Appalachian Mountain Club’s High Huts. Greg was a kind, intelligent, skilled, patient, funny, helpful person who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Greg was predeceased by his parents Donald Dean Clark and Ruth (Ditch) Clark and his brother Gary Dean Clark. Greg is survived by his wife of 29 years, Joyce Rondino Clark, sister Nancy (Clark) Salter, PhD., brother Alan Ray Clark and Alan’s partner Billie Helms. Also survived by nephews David Clark and Jesse Salter and Jesse’s family, wife Kristen, children Luke and Lila. Greg and Joyce would like to thank the ALS Teams at Hospital for Special Care and at the West Haven VA Hospital for their excellent care. Thank you also to CNA caregivers and to wonderful friends, neighbors for loving support. Thank you to the staff of ALS United CT for information, advocacy, and spirit lifting support groups. A memorial service will be held at the Universalist Church of West Hartford, 433 Fern St West Hartford, CT on May 2, at 3 pm.
