Grace Tonucci

After 100 years of loving devotion to her family and friends, Grace Tonucci passed away peacefully on October 23, 2019 at St. Mary Home in West Hartford. Grace was born in Fall River, MA on Dec. 2, 1918, the daughter of Rocco and Maria (DiTaranto) Guglielmo. Moving to West Hartford, CT as a young girl, she graduated from Hall High School in 1936 and then worked for the Travelers Insurance Co. In 1941, she met her life’s companion, Egidio Tonucci. They were married on May 30, 1944, a beautiful and happy union of 48 years. They owned and worked side by side in their business, Ye Olde Greeting Shoppe in West Hartford Center for 30 years. They retired to Florida in 1975 and made many new friends and wonderful memories. Her children and their families are grateful for the many winter get- a -ways to visit Nana and Papa. Grace and Gene loved to travel, visiting many Caribbean Islands, European countries, a memorable cross-country trip, and visiting relatives in Italy. One of her treasured memories was a trip to Spain with her children and grandchildren. Grace enjoyed crafts and she created many beautiful needlepoint pieces that her family will always treasure. Grace’s life will be celebrated and remembered by her loving children and their spouses, Jeanne and Neil Kelly of Newington, Janet and Frank Waters of Avon, and Rick and Bernice Tonucci of Farmington. She also leaves her grandchildren who she was so proud of, Jennifer (George) Jordan, Sara Bavaro, Joanna Waters (Kenny), Tyler (MacKenzie) Waters, Michael (Emily) Tonucci and Sam Tonucci, and great-grandchildren, Spencer, Dominic and Sophia Bavaro, Gavin and Molly Jordan, Harper Tonucci, Eddie Leonard and Jaxon Waters. She also leaves her dear sister, Cam LaQuerre, and sisters-in-law Josephine Tonucci and Alice Tonucci, and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her brothers Pasquale Guglielmo and Michael Guglielmo, sisters-in-law, Mary Guglielmo, Dee Guglielmo and Lil Tonucci. Her family greatly appreciates and acknowledges the wonderful care and support Grace received from the staff of St. Mary. Mom, while our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing you are reunited with Dad, and we are at peace until we meet again. Thank you for showing us the importance of family, which we will emulate and hold dear forever. Grace’s life will be celebrated on Monday, October 28, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
