Frank McGloin

McGloin, Francis 79 of West Hartford, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Frank was born in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, Ireland on March 29, 1932 the son of Winifred McPhelim and John James McGloin. He spent several years working at home in Ballyshannon and abroad in England before emigrating to the United States in October of 1963. Frank began working with his brothers in Connecticut as an Ironworker and was a proud member of Ironworkers Local 15. He was also a lifetime member of the Irish American Home Society in Glastonbury, and had many friends there. He was a communicant of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved all things Irish especially music and farming and he would often recite verses of poetry he learned as a boy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Geraldine Pinto McGloin and his loving children and their families: Mary and Paul Stone of West Hartford, Patrick and Amy McGloin of West Hartford and Elizabeth and David Browne of Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland. He will always be remembered as 'Papa' to his grandchildren Liam, Maeve and Declan Stone and Desmond McGloin of West Hartford. He was predeceased by his twin grandsons Daniel and Cormac Browne of Ireland. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Catherine Albury of Gerrard's Cross, England; Anna Loughlin of Ballyshannon; Mary Slattery and her husband Jack of Spring Lake, NJ; Bernard McGloin and his wife Dinah of Enfield; Joseph McGloin of Enfield; Vincent McGloin of Spring Lake Heights, NJ and Aloysius McGloin of Ballyshannon. He was predeceased by his brother John McGloin of England. Frank is also remembered fondly by his extended family and friends. His hugs, smile, sense of humor and stories will be forever missed by those who love him. Funeral services will be Saturday September 24, 2011 at 9:30 am from the Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, with the Celebration of his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Thomas the Apostle Church 872 Farmington Ave. West Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Friends may call Friday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home.
