Fannie Krems

KREMS, Fannie M. "Buba" Fannie "Buba" Mazer Krems, 93, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at Saint Francis Hospital. Fannie, the daughter of the late Esther and Samuel Mazer, was born in Ostrajohn, Russia. When Fannie was eight years old, she and her family arrived at Ellis Island. Her family settled in Philadelphia, where she worked in her parents' fish and fruit store during her adolescent and early adult years. In 1937 Fannie wed her beloved husband Jules Krems, to whom she was married for 57 years until his death in 1994. Fannie and Jules raised their five children in Portland, ME. There, Fannie was active in many volunteer positions with the PTA, United Fund, and others. Fannie and Jules moved to West Hartford 23 years ago. Fannie started a Leben and Lachen group at the Jewish Community Center in West Hartford as a place where the elderly could come together to speak Yiddish. Fannie was known for her wit in both English and Yiddish. Fannie was an exceptionally devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was most happy when she gave to others, and she gave often. One could not leave her home without being asked, "What can I give you to take home?" followed by Fannie's offering numerous suggestions of gifts or food. Fannie was predeceased by her brother Sol. Fannie is survived by her sister, Sarah Mazer of NY, NY; her sister-in-law Mollie Krems of Philadelphia, PA, and her five children; Bette Myerson of West Hartford; Helen Jacobson of Winslow, ME; Sheldon Krems and his wife Marjorie of Poughkeepsie, NY; Ruth Krems of Bloomfield; and Kenneth Krems and his wife Carol of Newton, MA. Fannie is also survived by 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Loreen Myerson and Aaron Margosian, Amy Myerson, Ellen Myerson, Eric and Joy Jacobson, Tracy and Chris Joly, Michelle and Vadim Turchin, Emily and Jaime Cachiguango, Paul and Janeene Freeman, Seth Freeman and his fiancee Waishana Rivers, Andre and Shola Freeman, and Katherine and Jennifer Krems; by her six great-grandchildren Spencer Margosian, Mia Turchin, Amecca Freeman, Kelly and Kristen Jacobson, and Daniel Joly as well as by nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Fannie's devoted physicians and caregivers, including the team of Hospice and Palliative Care of Connecticut. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 24, at 12 noon at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Connecticut, 111 Founders Plaza, East Hartford, CT 06108.
