Esther D. Calvi

CALVI, Esther D. Esther Katherine DiLorenzo Calvi of West Hartford, beloved widow of Pasquale Calvi, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Esther was born in Hartford, CT, the second eldest child of Amalio and Florence Cerimoniale DiLorenzo. She attended Brown School, Hartford Public High School and Morse Secretarial College and prior to her marriage had worked at G. Fox department store. Esther and Pasquale were married for 68 years and she was a devoted wife to him and a wonderful mother to their three children. Esther?s generosity was well-known and her home was always open to all her family. Her entire life was dedicated to helping others; those who were fortunate to know her will remember her brilliance, her lively sense of humor and her deep faith. She had a particular talent for entertaining children and her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews treasure their happy memories of her. When you were with her, the sun was always shining and she could make any problem or worry disappear. Esther was an accomplished and award-winning artist and studied under the renowned Ross Parke. For many years, she exhibited her paintings in local businesses in West Hartford and won many awards in art shows throughout the area. Although she excelled as a painter, she was also adept at many other handcrafts, such as pottery, needlework and dressmaking. She was a communicant for 50 years of the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, a member of the West Hartford Art League, the West Hartford Music and Art Club and the West Hartford Senior Center. She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Joseph Calvi and her daughter Lucretia Kulowski, both of West Hartford; her grandchildren: Donald Kulowski, Penelope Forbes, Richard Kulowski, David Forbes and Elizabeth Forbes; her great-grandchildren: Matthew, Anthony, Andrew, Alex and Donnie Kulowski and Ariana Forbes; her sisters-in-law Henrietta DiLorenzo and Betty Searle and many devoted nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Concetta Piro, her brothers Anthony DiLorenzo and Carl DiLorenzo and her daughter, Florence Forbes. The family would like to thank Dr. Frederick O?Brien, Dr. Philip Karanian and Dr. Gregory Sheehan for their superb and compassionate care, as well as Dr. Kathleen Hogan and Lawrence DiLorenzo for their wise counsel and support, Kay Liss of CT VNA for her many years of care and the nurses at St. Francis Hospice for their wonderful support. ?Many have done excellently, but you exceed them all.? Proverbs Funeral services are Wednesday March 1st, with a procession at 9:30 a.m. from the Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford and the celebration of her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
